چکیده

Background cMRI is frequently used to assess right ventricular (RV) morphology and function in patients with suspected ARVD and is the gold standard for fatty metaplasia amongst all non-invasive imaging tests. However, the incidence and severity of RV fatty infiltration by cMRI is not well defined. Here, stratified by age, we investigate the prevalence and severity of RV fat infiltration in a large population undergoing dedicated imaging for fat detection.

Magnetic resonance and computed tomography imaging of arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) is a familial cardiomyopathy that causes fibro-fatty replacement of the right ventricle (RV), leading to sudden death due to ventricular arrhythmias. The disease is an important cause of sudden death in individuals younger than 35 years of age. Structural and functional abnormalities of the RV constitute an important diagnostic criterion for the...

The Role of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Evaluation of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) is a cardiac muscle disorder characterized pathologically by fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricular (RV) myocardium [1]. In the early stage of the disease, structural changes may be confined to, the so called "triangle of dysplasia" in the RV. Clinical expression ranges from an asymptomatic phenotype, arrhythmias or eve...

Improve of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia evaluation by magnetic resonance using ventricular arrhythmia suppression with intravenous lidocaine

Background New recommendations from task force criteria for the diagnosis of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) include regional right ventricle (RV) akinesia or dyskinesia or dyssynchronous RV contraction associated to RV dilatation or RV dysfunction evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as major diagnostic criteria. However the frequent presentation of ...

Utility of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance in the Evaluation of Unselected Patients with Possible Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy

INTRODUCTION Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a rare but important cause of sudden cardiac death. We investigated the role of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in the evaluation of patients with suspected ARVC referred by a general cardiology service. METHODS Ninety-two patients (mean age 48 ± 15, 49% female), referred for CMR assessment of possible ARVC, were ...

Characteristics of right ventricular free wall motion in young patients with ventricular arrhythmia, a cardiac MRI study

Background Right ventricular (RV) regional wall characteristics are important in CMR evaluation for arrhythmogenic RV dysplasia (ARVD). While some features are well defined, others are of uncertain clinical significance, due in part, to the high prevalence of RV wall motion variants found in normal subjects. In this study we performed a retrospective review of RV free wall characteristics in a ...
